<p><strong>Fa'atauga'o'a.</strong><br><em>"Like the pressing out of the 'o'a."</em></p><p>This alagaupu (proverb) comes from the traditional process of making siapo (tapa cloth): a reddish-brown dye is drawn out of the scraped bark of the 'o'a tree by exerting slow, steady pressure — never rushed. As an <em>upu taofiofi</em> (a word of caution and restraint), it is used to counsel patience and thoroughness: do things slowly and completely, without precipitation.
